The Marine Technical Department in Boustead Shipping Agencies handles
the technical aspect of business for outside parties, inter-alia acting
as the local correspondent for renowned international P & I Clubs.
As a purely service provider, the capability of the department to react
to an appropriate situation or its ability to disseminate relevant information
in the shortest time will go a long way in ensuring that our clients are
to a certain extent well prepare to face any onslaught in their commercial
adventures.
In order to attain such standards or competencies, we apply the twin
principles of a hypothetical successful service provider namely; to have
experienced staffing; and their ability to analyze and thereafter provide
an appropriate solution to a problem, within a reasonable time frame.
These principles where it is appropriately adhere to, would in turn galvanize
into a faster feedback to our clients with a fair degree of reliability.
The objective of our department is thus loud and clear i.e. to be capable
to react to an appropriate situation and be able to provide the relevant
feedback in the shortest time possible.
We have entrusted Capt. Tan Kar Sin, a master mariner to head this Division.
His experiences include working on foreign-going ships in various capacities
up to the master’s level and at the end of his sojourn at sea had
performed services in most categories of ships including bulk carriers,
general cargo, fully containerized, ro-ro, oil tankers and ammonia gas
carrier—all ocean-going. His other previous experiences in respect
of the maritime field include as a ship-manager, superintendent, port
captain, marine surveyor and providing technical assistance to other P
& I correspondents.
Apart from the Master’s license after graduating from the New Zealand
Nautical College back in 1987, he has continued to acquire new knowledge
and skills by way of education and training through the various colleges
and professional bodies.
